Bed Clean Up's

Keeping your planting beds clean makes a big difference in the overall appearence of your property. We offer a bed clean up service that can be performed one time, or monthly if you're looking to keep your beds clean throughout the season. During your bed clean up the following services will take place:

  • Any weeds, grass, sticks, twigs, and debris in planting beds will be removed and disposed of.
  • No chemicals are used during this service
  • While bed edging is a service we offer, it is not included in bed clean up's and would need to be added if desired as additional fees apply for that service.

Aeration

This service involves perforating the soil with small holes to allow air, water and nutrients to penetrate the grass roots. This helps the roots grow deeply and produce a stronger, more vigorous lawn. The main reason for aerating  is to alleviate soil compaction.

Dethatching

  • Thatch is a tightly intermingled layer of living and dead stems, leaves and roots which accumulates between the layer of actively-growing grass and the soil underneath.
  • Thatch is a normal component of an actively growing turf grass. As long as the thatch is not too thick, it can increase the resilience of the turf to heavy traffic.
  • Thatch develops more readily on high-maintenance lawns than on low-maintenance lawns.

How does thatch effect turf quality?
  • An excessive thatch layer (more than 1 inch) can restrict the movement of air, water, fertilizer and other materials to the roots. This air- and water- impervious layer causes the grass to restrict rooting to the thatch layer to get air and water and, hence, reduces drought resistance in the turf. Furthermore, if the thatch dries out, it cannot be re-wetted easily.
  • Even if the thatch stays moist, it can harbor fungi which can cause turf diseases. When temperature and moisture conditions are right, a disease infestation can kill the already weakened turf.
  • The overall effect of a thick thatch layer is an unthrifty lawn which does not respond well to management practices and is easily injured by adverse weather conditions and pests.

Over seeding

  • Over seeding is an overlooked activity in American home lawn care. Consumers assume, incorrectly, that fertilizer is all that is needed to keep a turf thick and free of weeds.
  • Grass gets tired. It needs to be revitalized. Over seeding is not difficult and the benefits support investing the modest amount of time it takes to make it happen.
  • Over seeding compensates for that natural slowdown of the turf's reproduction.

There are two major benefits to over seeding:

  • You ensure your lawn stays thick and dense, or if it has thinned, you will make it thick again. Thick grass has few if any weeds if it is mowed over 2 inches tall.
  • Disease resistance. The new varieties of seed you sow this year will have better disease resistance than those varieties already in your lawn.

Power Raking The loosening and/or removal of matted grass and leaves from existing lawns, which allows the grass to breathe and therefore promotes healthy growth.

Tree and Shrub Care

  • Shrubs and bushes will be cut back leaving a nice, shapely, even look
  • Any and all debris will be removed and disposed of (Disposal fees apply)
  • Trees that are less then fifteen (15) feet in height will be trimmed back to help light through and allow new growth.
  • This service is offered throughout the growing season, winter tree trimming is available as well.

Fall Cleanup The fall clean-up is a very important step to maintaining your lawn’s health. We offer one time or multi-visit clean up's depending on your property's needs. Our Fall clean up services are offered throughout the month of November and include the following:

  • Leaves will be bagged up from the lawn and grass will be cut and bagged during this time as well (if needed/weather permitting)
  • We will clean up all sticks, twigs, leaves and debris from the property along with any weeds and dead grass in planting beds.
  • Perennials will be cut back, however straw grasses (if present) are usually left for winter interest unless client requests that we cut them back as well.
